Note to US authorities, please make lifted trucks have Mansfield bars like this so bumpers have something to engage. Also make them re-aim their headlights or have lowered lights. They can be quick release so they can be removed for actual offroading, but on the highway they need to function as normal vehicles in a crash.

Yeah but do you think the bro truck drivers who never actually offroad would care?

If we were impounding their trucks, then yes I think they would care.

I’ve always thought about suing one of these guys if a loved one was in a fatal crash because their vehicle had been modified in such a way to make it more dangerous in a collision such as putting the bumper at head-level...

At least in California there is a section of the vehicle code that mandates max headlight height, thus making lift kits illegal due to that vehicle code section.

This is probably the same throughout the US as the California vehicle code is based off general guidelines from the federal government I belive.

This. In most places, a truck like this is completely illegal to begin with. The problem is a lack of enforcement.

Yup. Even among CHP most officers don’t know the vehicle code that well, and even if they do they just don’t care. But if they did, they would end up getting yelled at for writing “chicken shit” tickets like this because the department is more concerned about their public image then actually doing any good.

Probably, the only difference being that lifted trucks are known by the state of California to cause cancer and other birth defects.

Now that I think about it, I’m surprised that a Prop 65 sticker isn’t found under the hood of cars.

Or on cigarettes.

I think the surgeon general’s warning takes the place of Prop 65 on cigarettes though.

I wondered about that - they’d get cited for “unsafe equipment” or something like that until the truck was modified to meet the statute. Maybe there is some sort of loophole, or it’s just quietly ignored?

I think it’s just ignored. I’ve heard that some states like MA actually will fail inspection for these sorts of things which keeps the lifted bro-truck population down, but most places just don’t care.

It’s there but it’s not a traditional pumpkin you need to zoom in on the pic.
